This piece is inspired by the logical, systematic, yet unique growth patterns of plants. Plants develop to fit their environment while maintaining certain attributes. Any species of plant has a generalized set of attributes (colors, flower shape/size, leaf shape, relationship between stem/branches/leaves), that are more or less similar from one individual plant to the next.

Close examination reveals that each plant, though largely similar, is subtly different, and each individual has a set of attributes unique to it alone. In Leaf Piece this facile observation is extended to develop a new tonal improvisational framework based on a single key center and using a unique approach to negotiating the major/minor tonal system.
